Our History

Since 1868...

Since 1868, our church has been a group of Christ-followers dedicated to extending the kingdom of God in Albert Lea, throughout southern Minnesota, and around the world.

First Presbyterian Church was founded on Sept. 29,1868. The Mankato Presbytery sent a committee to meet with a small group of 18 committed Christians who desired to become a Presbyterian church. After meeting with the group, the church was founded, and elders were ordained. According to records, First Presbyterian Church started almost immediately on a church building which was completed shortly after the church's inception in 1869. It was the first church building built in the city and was the largest place in the city where meetings could be held at that time, becoming a landmark and sanctuary for all.

Dedicated to Scripture and our Reformed heritage, First Presbyterian chose to become ECO Presbyterian (Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians) in 2016.
